Those tall stairway walls with nothing on them can be bland and overwhelming. Yet it can be challenging to fill the space with art, because of the difficulty to reach the proper height.

Hanging large artThis weekend we were asked to hang an oversized poster on a two-story stairway wall. Though the art piece, measuring 44″ wide by 54″ tall wasn’t overly heavy – it had plexiglass – the main challenge was to reach high enough to reach the area where the hook should go. That’s where our adjustable ladder came in. It works on stairways and gives you a firm hold, but we do advise to do this type of job with two or three people: one on the ladder, one holding the ladder (SAFETY FIRST!) and the third person on the floor where they have a good overview.

While two people are holding the art where it should go the third person marks the left bottom corner with blue tape. Measure the piece’s width and determine its center (if the piece is wide like the one in this sample, plan to put two hooks.) Calculate where the first hook should go and put the second one about 1 foot apart, using a level. Once the two hooks are in place, hang the piece with two people. And look at the beautiful result!
