When a work environment is in need of some sprucing-up, like the space you see here as the “before” images, there are many ways to go about it. But what if you are on a (tight) budget? What should your designer address first? What will have the best impact and long term results?
There are two elements in this space that really create the tired look: the fluorescent lighting and stuffy grey carpet. The furniture isn’t spectacular either and the walls can use a touch of paint. All together not a very inspirational work space.
The first step is to select flooring. There are many smart products out there in today’s market, from ceramic tile to wall-to-wall carpeting, laminate, bamboo and hardwood. If hardwood is too pricey, go for laminate – it’s a very good second option. A new floor will set the tone of your new office.
Second, bring in more lively LED can lighting, it is bright and warm, and has a spotlight function. Can lighting is not cheap but will pay off in low electricity usage. Once all that is in place, bring in the painters to paint walls and trim.
Now that the stage is set, it is time to consider the furniture. To keep the budget low, know which pieces can find a spot in your new environment. In the above case, the desk and office chair are functional and stay. The futon-sofa has to go.
We added new affordable furniture items that enhance the flow. Now his office is a pleasant, calming work space, where it is easy to concentrate on the task at hand.
